Ok, technically it's no longer January 1st. Sorry kids, I was highly distracted by cleaning and packing up as I have to leave back to Idaho in 14 hours.
I spent New Year's Eve with my best friend of 11 years, Alicia, her husband Derrick, our friend Marlon, and my sister Brynn and fiance Craig. We played Rock Band and an awesome game called "Things" (look it up, it's ridiculously fun). Perfect, small, intimate gathering, just the way I like it. It was only missing my favorite Austin, who is home in Arizona. And when I called him at midnight, for happy new year and happy birthday, he was asleep! He claims to have been sick.
During the day on New Year's Eve I watched Unbreakable with my best guy friend Mark (we LOVE M. Night!) and then went up to Farmington to see my best friend from college, Diana, with her husband Scott, who is from there. And then we ate Sushi. :)
So there are my celebrations to end the year. I have a lot of best friends, it seems.
But let's look over this year, shall we?
I am two semesters closer to graduating!! Two left!
I finally decided on a career: editing. I edited a book for my friend's dad, Jay Jarvie, this summer, and loved it (pivotalevent.com, it's a fascinating book). Also in two of my classes this past semester I had a lot of editing opportunities (for our school literary magazine and for a class magazine) and continued to love it. So I extended my graduation date for one more semester so I can take editing classes and hopefully do that full time for a while before I become a mom.
I worked at a movie theater...a very valuable experience. I feel like I talk about it a lot. The movies suck you into another world. A movie theater does the same. I breathed popcorn while there. But I learned a lot about human nature, even in myself. So it was unforgettable and invaluable.
Also worked at school as a figure model for the art department. Most rewarding job I've ever had. I learned a lot about my body and about art, and about the beauty of God's creations. Definitely increased my appreciation for nature.
Several of my sister missionaries came home from their missions this year. I love love love missionaries. I am running low on them; one more is coming home in the next week leaving me with only four to write to, which is the lowest number I've had in 5 years. In the past 6 years I've written to 43 missionaries, regularly. But it is awesome to have them come home and be with them again. I dearly dearly love my sisters (elders too, but most of them have been home for a long time :) ).
I had awesome roommates both semesters this past year. I love being a single woman, college student, living with roommates, and especially learning from them. Lots of good, new recipes. ;)
Now things to look forward to:
I already have 4 weddings lined up for 2010. January 29th, April 17th, May 1st, and June 1st.
I am graduating in July!!!!!!!!!!
More awesome experiences at BYU-Idaho!!
And who knows what else!!
I've been reading a lot in the paper how 2009 has been a really terrible year...maybe nationally it has, but individually, I can't say it's been easy, but I can say I came out on top. :)
